4 Hold Fast to Scripture in All Things


II Timothy 3

1-5  This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

13-17  But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Many churches have turned against various parts of scripture, eliminating them, explaining them away or just failing to mention those scriptures.

We must not do that.  We must continue in the scripture, holding fast scripture even when the church groups do otherwise.

What does God say concerning divorce and remarriage after divorce? 

Matthew 5:32    Jesus says:  But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

- If a man divorces "a faithful wife", he will be the "cause" of the adultery she will commit if she remarries.
- The divorced woman commits adultery if she remarries.
- The man who marries the woman who is divorced commits adultery.


I Corinthians 7:10-11    And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

I Corinthians 7:2   to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

What does God say concerning homosexuals and lesbians? 

Romans 1:26-27    For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

What does God say concerning fornication?

I Corinthians 6:15-20  Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.

What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith HE, shall be one flesh.

(At the time of sexual intercourse, the two become one flesh, even if the sex is with a prostitute.) 

But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Today many in the medical world are calling drunkenness a disease.

What does God say about drunkenness? 

I Corinthians 6:9-10    Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?

Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate (homosexuals), nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Though many churches have gone into the apostasy today, we must not forsake that which is told us by God in the Holy Bible.

The scriptures say before Jesus returns there will be "a falling away", churches will fall away from scripture.  KJV  II Thessalonians 2

The NASB calls this falling away, the apostasy.

Churches will depart from scriptures and set up that which is opposite from scripture.

II Thessalonians 2:3-4    NASB    Let no one in any way deceive you, for it (the day of the Lord) will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.

This happens in the temple of God, in the church itself.

In the last days, churches will fall away from scripture.

We must not do this.

Hold fast to scripture in all things.
